Target audience
New or recently appointed payroll administrators, payroll assistants, HR staff, administrative managers and any professional wishing to acquire or consolidate the fundamentals of the payslip.
Prerequisites
- No prior technical payroll knowledge required
- General familiarity with the business environment and HR processes is helpful
- Comfortable with the everyday functions of a spreadsheet
Learning objectives
- Identify the sections and entries of a payslip
- Distinguish between base salary, gross pay, taxable net, net social amount and net pay
- Determine fixed and variable pay elements
- Process overtime and additional hours
- Calculate a deduction for a starter, leaver or absence
- Apply the rules for accruing and paying annual leave
- Assess the impact of sick leave and daily allowances (IJSS) on the payslip
- Identify the main social contributions and their bases
- Understand capping and year-end adjustments
- Carry out consistency checks on a payslip
- Identify the information reported in the DSN
- Analyse a payslip and spot a common anomaly
